Students in our programs have previously earned degrees in a diverse range of fields including; computer science, statistics, mathematics, geology, economics, industrial engineering, physics, materials science, electrical engineering, information technology, quantitative finance, mechanical engineering, network security, radiation medicine, geographical information science and more.

The mission of the Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (BICB) graduate program is to provide interdisciplinary education in the area of bioinformatics and computational biology at the interface of quantitative sciences, medicine, and biology.

The M.S. in Data Science program provides a strong foundation in the science of Big Data and its analysis by gathering in a single program the knowledge, expertise, and educational assets in data collection and management, data analytics, scalable data-driven pattern discovery, and the fundamental concepts behind these methods.

The Department of Computer Science & Engineering at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities reviews students holistically and considers a wide range of factors when choosing applicants for admission. While many of our admitted students have a background in computer science, students in our programs have previously earned degrees in a diverse range of fields.
